HSL 2.75G Femtocell trials successful

February 13, 2017

Independent Edinburgh-based mobile network operator HSL announced yesterday that its 2.75G Femtocell has been put on trial by a number of operators around the world.

Both mobile and fixed-line operators tested the technology in residential and commercial settings.

A number of operators said they would choose 2G over 3G Femtocells for home and office environments because the prevalence of Wi-Fi networks mean that 2G technologies can provide high data rates at lower cost.

In addition, HSL’s 2.75G Femtocell is compatible with both 2G and 3G handsets, whereas 3G Femtocells usually only work with 3G phones.

The HSL 2.75G Femtocell is capable of handing up to 14 simultaneous voice calls, and provides GPRS/EDGE data rates of up to 414Kbps.

Because of its capabilities, many firms are considering replacing their more expensive and obtrusive picocells with HSL Femtocell technology.

The HSL 2.75G Femtocell will be on display at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week.
